SoCalGas Named Finalist in Two Categories for Reuters Events’ Responsible Business Awards 2022

Company shortlisted for Business Transition Award and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award

SoCalGas is excited to announce we’ve been shortlisted in two categories for Reuters Events’ Responsible Business Awards 2022, international awards highlighting our efforts to transform our business model in the face of climate change and our focus on diversity in our workforce and everything we do.

SoCalGas was among 700 worldwide companies considered for awards in 17 categories, designed to recognize leadership in sustainable business in categories that range from product innovation to responsible investments.

We’re thrilled to be shortlisted for two awards: the Business Transition Award and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award.

Reuters Events describes its Business Transition Award as recognizing companies “taking critical steps to transform its business model in line with a clean, resilient just future.”

We’ve striven to do just that, announcing last year, our aspiration to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions in our operations and the energy we deliver by 2045. That includes our announcement earlier this year to develop Angeles Link, a green hydrogen energy infrastructure system that could deliver clean, reliable energy to the Los Angeles basin to provide a path to decarbonize heavy industries that require clean fuels and cannot currently be electrified. That’s in addition to more than a dozen hydrogen projects we have in the pipeline looking to help decarbonize California through clean fuels.

Just as exciting is being shortlisted for Reuters Events’ Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award, recognizing efforts “that best demonstrates measurable impact in promoting progressive diversity values around investment, strategy, education or recruitment – with the goal in mind to ensure a more just and equal society.”

We’ve put a premium on diversity, making it a feature of SoCalGas’ Sustainability Strategy that we unveiled earlier this year. The strategy calls not only for hiring and fostering diverse talent within our company, but also in the vendors we work with and the investments we make in communities we serve. That includes specific goals to increase diversity in company leadership roles by 2025, increasing how much we spend with Disadvantaged Business Enterprises and investing $50 million in the diverse communities we serve, including education and workforce investments over the next five years.

The final award winners will be announced Oct. 13 in London, England.
