Residential Customers to Receive California Climate Credit on April Bill

This year customers will receive a credit of $44.17 on natural gas bill

This April, SoCalGas residential customers will receive a credit of $44.17 on their natural gas bill. The California Climate Credit was created by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) as part of the state’s effort to fight climate change. No action is necessary to receive the credit, it will be automatically applied to the April SoCalGas bill. For customers with a bill less than the credit amount, any carryover balance will be applied to the next month’s bill. If the credit carries over to future months’ bills, you can ask for a refund check instead of having the balance applied to your next month's bill.

California requires power plants, natural gas distributors, and other large industries that emit greenhouse gases to buy carbon pollution permits, which are available from auctions managed by the California Air Resources Board. The California Climate Credit is the customers’ share of the payments from this program.  SoCalGas customers began receiving this annual bill credit in 2019.

The California Climate Credit is one of many programs resulting from landmark legislation called the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006. Together, these programs are cutting pollution, creating jobs, and investing in cleaner energy and transportation. The California Climate Credit is designed to help you join in these efforts.

SoCalGas also offers energy-saving home upgrades to help customers save even more money long-term and help decrease greenhouse gas emissions. For more information, visit https://www.socalgas.com/save-money-and-energy
